Creating Jobs

Putting Portland to Work
There are a lot of good things happening in Portland.
With the project at Thompson’s Point, the construction of a new technology park and the development of the Marginal Way corridor, we are attracting investment that is creating jobs and adding to our quality of life. But we have more work to do.
From Planning to Paychecks
We need to eliminate barriers that unnecessarily hold projects up and stifle job creation. To do this, we need to make the process more efficient and improve customer service by:
- Making all permits and applications available online
- Making certain projects eligible for same day approval
- Implementing common sense enforcement of existing laws
This plan will help create jobs, but it will also maintain our high safety, zoning and workforce standards.
We must ensure that we do not sacrifice Portland’s character in the name of short term economic gain. By bringing people together around common sense solutions, we can make Portland’s economy soar.
Saving the Waterfront
Our waterfront is the envy of people around the globe. But today, our fishing industry, both as an economic driver and a way of life, is in danger of sinking into the sea. This is a multi-million dollar asset that must be saved. We do this by:
- Bringing ground fishing boats back and saving our working waterfront
- Investing in both our marine and non marine infrastructure
- Re-establishing ferry service to Nova Scotia
- Attracting non-marine investment
Saving our working waterfront means adapting to today’s realities. We must work to ensure that marine and non-marine industries can work together side by side to ensure future generations have the chance to appreciate this special resource.
