Leadership
Keeping the Good Things Going in Portland
With the elected Mayor, Portland has the opportunity to establish a vision for its future. There are a lot of good things happening in this city, and I want to keep those things happening while I work to make Portland an even better place.
With a slight change in priorities we can create jobs, prepare our children for the 21st century economy and save our working waterfront. This won’t be easy, and Portland needs a Mayor with a proven track record of bringing people together to solve problems. I have worked with Pierce Atwood to keep hundreds of jobs in the city, I worked with developers, neighbors and skeptical City Councilors to help facilitate the Thompson’s Point development that will create more than 1,600 jobs and I have stood up to the Governor to protect the best interest of Portland.
As elected Mayor, I will continue to keep this momentum going. I will provide the political leadership that is sometimes needed in our public debate. By using the position to build consensus, we can bridge the gaps that, from time to time, under the current system, lead to delays or deferrals.
I have a vision for Portland that builds on our successes, protects our character and makes us more sustainable. In short, I want to keep what is good about Portland good, and move us towards a brighter future.
The kind of progress I am talking about won’t happen overnight. With four years to work with businesses, community groups, the City Council, School Board, department heads and others, we can strengthen Portland and build towards an even brighter future.
